Grass-fed Beef: Beef with Benefits

Our Angus-cross cattle are raised the natural way -- on grass. This is good for the cattle, good for the environment, good for your health and good for us, the farmers.

The grass-fed beef we offer for sale contains no added hormones, antibiotics, or animal by-product feedstuffs. There are no preservatives or MSG in our meat. It is processed locally under USDA inspection and dry-aged before being available for sale.

Grass-fed beef has been touted as having several benefits over grain-fed beef:
  • Less fat
  • Less calories
  • Extra Omega-3s (the good fats)
  • More CLA (more good fat)
  • Higher in Vitamin E

Jo Robinson provides more information on her site
www.eatwild.com about the benefits of grass-fed beef. Ms. Robinson is an investigative journalist and New York Times best-selling writer. She is well-respected as an authority on raising animals on pasture.

Research Proves It!

Grass-fed beef is better for human health than grain-fed beef in ten different ways, according a 2009 study that was a joint effort between the USDA and researchers at Clemson University. Compared with grain-fed beef, grass-fed beef was:

  • Lower in total fat
  • Higher in beta-carotene
  • Higher in vitamin E
  • Higher in B-vitamins
  • Higher in the minerals calcium, magnesium and potassium
  • Higher in total omega-3s
  • A healthier ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids (1.65 vs. 4.84)
  • Higher in CLA, a potential cancer fighter
  • Higher in vaccenic acid (which can be transformed into CLA)
  • Lower in saturated fats linked with heart disease
